Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke was the keynote speaker, addressing Seal of Satisfaction award recipient business owners and executives. He recognized the 2013 Seal recipient attendees as being exceptional examples of Chattanooga companies and practices dedicated to excellence. Mayor Berke's address reviewed his current initiatives to further improve the quality of life in Chattanooga and the national recognition Chattanooga is receiving from many media sources. He discussed the addition of police personnel to increase our city's safety and the increased number of police on the street lightening each officer's workload, permitting them to become more proactive, rather than reactive. Mayor Berke discussed the increased utilization of city resources to provide new outlets for after school education programs so students will have increased opportunities for assistance and greater academic success. He also discussed the many vacant, neglected properties owned by the city and his plan to find new private sector owners for those properties willing to invest in construction of new rental properties. The goal being to provide new jobs and housing opportunities while removing those vacant properties from the city's ownership. In closing Mayor Berke discussed the goal of extending Central Avenue to connect with Riverfront Parkway which would be beneficial to traffic flow and access in that area, but would also open new areas for property development, creating new job opportunities in the process.

Matt Wiltshire, Director of Mayor Karl Dean's Office of Economic and Community Development for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County was the keynote speaker, addressing Seal of Satisfaction award recipient business owners and executives. Mr. Wiltshire outlined Nashville Mayor Karl Dean's ongoing strategy for continued growth focusing on three primary areas which are community safety, education, and new company recruitment. He reviewed the significant improvements that have been made in both the community safety and education areas. In the community safety area, the homicide rate has dramatically decreased during Mayor Dean's tenure. In the public education area, starting teacher pay has increased significantly which allows the Nashville school system to attract and retain higher caliber educators. Both of these areas are critical to attracting major companies to Nashville as an educated workforce, good schools for their employees children, and safe communities are critical factors in the decision making process when companies are evaluating cities for relocation. Mr. Wiltshire said the economic future is bright for Nashville and middle Tennessee.

Congressman Cooper's address covered a variety of topics ranging from the issues with the current health care system to the pending recommendation of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction (otherwise known as the "Super Committee"). He said the longer the government delayed in implementing a deficit reduction plan, the more painful it will eventually be for the American people and if the Super Committee fails to agree on a package or the full Congress fails to pass it, a "trigger mechanism" would enact $1.2 trillion in automatic spending cuts with an inordinately severe impact on the defense budget. Congressman Cooper said the free market system has historically been the backbone of the American economy and because of the strength of our system, we have been seeing increased ownership in U.S. companies by foreign investors. He also cited the importance of maintaining the free market system while continuing to protect our national interests. Congressman Cooper said while we face severe challenges in the months and years ahead, the United States has been, still is, and will continue to be the greatest country the world has seen.

While he acknowledged that painful budget reductions are inevitable and necessary, he stressed the need for the United States to maintain its technological superiority, which makes continued military research and development funding paramount to our long term national security. Congressman Brooks made a strong case for the Fair Tax, with the condition it has the necessary checks and balances drafted into the legislation to ensure the actual Fair Tax system remains true to its original intent. Following a question and answer session with the Seal recipient attendees, Congressman Brooks closed referencing the crippling weight of the entitlement system caused by increasingly socialistic programs burdening the American economy, funded by all tax-payers and the growing deficit. Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield was the keynote speaker, addressing Seal of Satisfaction award recipient business owners and executives. He recognized the Seal recipient attendees as being the "backbone of the Chattanooga economy". Mayor Littlefield's address was an insightful time line of Chattanooga's change from a primarily manufacturing based economy to today's balance of manufacturing and tourism, citing this balance that helps to minimize the local affects of economic slowdowns compared to many other U.S. cities. Beginning with the old "TNT Plant" from the 1940's and ending with today's Alstrom Power and Volkswagen investments in Chattanooga, he shared stories how the city has evolved thanks to the far-sightedness and dedication of so many community leaders. The Mayor said, "Five years from now you may not recognize Chattanooga". Mayor Littlefield said while the local economy has leveled temporarily, the city today is actively planning for the future growth and managing the growth that is sure to come. His message was one of continued growth and new opportunity for Chattanoogans and those in the surrounding areas.

Paul Ney, Director of the Mayor's Office of Economic and Community Development for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County was the keynote speaker, addressing Seal of Satisfaction award recipient business owners and executives. He congratulated the Seal recipient attendees for their dedication to continuing customer/client satisfaction and business excellence. He commented that his view of his office's role towards Nashville business owners is similar to the high standards of the Seal of Satisfaction regarding their efforts on behalf of his office's clients, the business owner, both large and small. Mr. Ney discussed the role of the Office of Economic and Community Development for attracting new businesses and providing assistance and resources to existing business owners. While sharing stories of how some prominent companies selected Nashville for relocation of their business, he also discussed his expectations and optimism of what the next couple of years has in store for new business development in Davidson County and continued growth of existing companies.
